Who are underserved communities?
Underserved communities are groups of people or populations faced with challenges and barriers pertaining to the access and use of resources due to several factors including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, religion, geographical location, spoken language, and economic status. Access to proper healthcare and health education remains one of the more pressing concerns regarding underserved communities.
What are developing countries?
Unfortunately, there is no widely accepted definition for what constitutes a developing country. Many major global organizations, such as the United Nations, have developed their own criteria for identification of developing countries which emphasize different factors, for instance, economic status or gross national income (GNI) per capita. However, the identification of a developing country can usually be determined when: the general population lacks access to resources such as clean water, sanitation, education, stable energy, and proper healthcare; the country is facing economic hardship; or the country exhibits practices which go against the universal declaration of human rights.
